The ingenious “spot carving” was born. This leaves the background grain open to inspection, while the random spot surface flaws are carved over. Another unique set of shapes designed by the original Lorenzo Tagliabue. Here is one of them. Shape 8784 If you stand back and look at them you can see the Dublin, Apple and Billiard shapes on which the designs are based. And the design is perfect – the ridge is just where the pipe will be held – snug in either hand. But the finish is new from Riccardo – he calls it “Sandpebble”. Beautifully carved it offers “sandblasted-look” finishes more dramatic than natural sandblasting, which rely on the natural grain of the briar. With 9mm option
