Achille Savinelli, a man who changed the history of the pipe, was born in Milan in 1918. To Achille, the son of the founder of Savinelli, pipes were a true passion. His original designs proved revolutionary, combining beauty and smoking satisfaction, producing pipes that he too loved and smoked every day. He possessed pipes of every shape and size imaginable.
For more than 100 years four generations of the Savinelli family have been committed to the pursuit of excellence – creating pipes of the highest quality. Each pipe is handcrafted by dedicated artisans who love their work.
The briar wood purchased must all be good enough for their top pipes, because it is only when the bowls have been turned, after the wood has been carefully dried and cured, that they can be sorted. Any surface flaws, and the amount of hard/soft grain, are what differentiate the gradings. It follows that whichever pipe you choose, the bowl will be hard, dry and porous, ensuring a good smoke.
Savinelli pioneered the optional balsa system – absorbing moisture from the smoke without affecting taste or air flow.
