The best of both worlds:
The sandblasted panels show the ring grain in relief, the smooth panels allow you to appreciate the matching straight grain.
The whole pipe was sandblasted, with the front panel, the nearside, and the top of the shank carefully polished removing the surface sandblasting in order to display the fine grain.
Check the mirror smooth inside of the bowl to confirm the straight grain.
Just visualise holding the pipe – your hand wraps around the sandblasted panel, a soothing tactile experience – Colin always said “finger-rubbing good”. And straight in front of you is the smooth panel with hints of black stain from the sandblasted sections.
This is a real handful - a very large piece of briar. Rare.
A Free Style pipe – the artist allowed the briar to talk to him so he could emphasize the best attributes.
The quarter bent “squared oval” stem suits the large bowl, allows the pipe to stand, and interestingly defines the cross grain.
The mouthpiece has the original Achille Savinelli signature – the final mark of high quality.

Savinelli Autograph Sandblast
The artisan’s take on a classic bent pipe, transformed to show off the beautiful Ring Grain, and incidentally curved inwards to nestle into your hand.
The grain is worth showing off – ring around the bowl and shank with complementary BirdsEye on the rim and under the bowl.
His final touch is the mouthpiece. Dark with gold highlights echoing the highlights on the rich, deep brown, sandblasted finish.
