Hand carved pipes

The best of both worlds: The sandblasted panels show the ring grain in relief, the smooth panels allow you to appreciate the matching straight grain. The whole pipe was sandblasted, with the front panel, the nearside, and the top of the shank carefully polished removing the surface sandblasting in order to display the fine grain. Check the mirror smooth inside of the bowl to confirm the straight grain. Just visualise holding the pipe – your hand wraps around the sandblasted panel, a soothing tactile experience – Colin always said “finger-rubbing good”. And straight in front of you is the smooth panel with hints of black stain from the sandblasted sections. This is a real handful - a very large piece of briar. Rare. A Free Style pipe – the artist allowed the briar to talk to him so he could emphasize the best attributes. The quarter bent “squared oval” stem suits the large bowl, allows the pipe to stand, and interestingly defines the cross grain. The mouthpiece has the original Achille Savinelli signature – the final mark of high quality. This pipe was personally selected from the Savinelli factory, Barasso Italy
