Description
Background:
Bjarne Nielsen (1941-2008) was a long time prominent distributor of Danish pipes.
He started smoking a pipe at the age of 16 and made a few for himself and as gifts to friends, After completing his MBA degree at the University of Copenhagen he took a position at the Danish Foreign Ministry where he helped Danish businesses with their exports.
With the increased demand for Danish freehand pipes in the 1960s he was often requested for supplies. He found that most of the companies were fully committed and sent pictures of some of the pipes he had made.
This started his career as a full-time pipemaker.
Naturally the demand was soon higher than he could make himself, so he employed Danish pipemakers – a few for high volume pieces, stamped “Bjarne”, and some for higher grade, high-priced pipes which were stamped Bjarne Nielsen.
The names of the carvers weren’t added.
