Riccardo Aliverti, the erstwhile factory manager, took over the factory when Lorenzo Tagliabue passed away.
He saw the benefit of the cheaper briar and labour in Albania and created the Lorenzo Spitfire range. He also created the “Spot-carved” finish – an example of the “Lorenzo” spirit of innovation: Some “slightly flawed” blocks show a large degree of hard wood and excellent grain – it seemed a waste to rusticate the whole bowl to cover these flaws.
The ingenious “spot carving” was born.
This leaves the background grain open to inspection, while the random spot surface flaws are carved over.
In this case Flame grain and plenty of hard wood behind the carvings.
A large billiard bowl (21mm, depth 42mm) with an oval stem, taper mouthpiece. Never smoked.
The pipe has a 9mm option, and the shank is strengthened with a brass band. Removable adapter fitted.
